Chairman + CFO

How long have you been with ABC?

Five years.

Where are you from?

Born and raised on Long Island.

What do you love about ABC or find interesting about the stone business in general?

I was attracted to ABC for the family-oriented environment, the potential of the company, and the beauty of the product it offers. The knowledge of our staff on natural stone products and the industry itself is unsurpassed.

What is your approach to leadership?

Empathy. Treat everyone how you want to be treated, lead by example and share your experience to develop others. The personnel management and relationship-building skills are equally as necessary as the knowledge and expertise of any leader.

What differentiates ABC from other stone distributors?

In addition to the unique beauty of the natural and man-made stone we possess, our view of the customer separates us from other stone distributors. Our staff supports our clients from A – Z of the sales process and always concerns itself with their best interest.

If you were a stone, what would you be and why?

I’d be Belvedere quartzite as I am reliable, strong, and I don’t scratch easily. At first glance, Belvedere appears to be a primarily black stone, but upon closer inspection, it is quite nuanced with many shades of cream, tan, and brown – there’s more to it than meets the eye.

How long have you been in the business and with ABC?

I’ve been in the stone business for 12 years and with ABC for seven.

Where are you from and when did you come to the US?

I am originally from Italy, and I moved to the US seven years ago. In 2021, I became a proud US Citizen.

What do you love about your job and stone in general?

My job is my passion. I love to educate people about natural stone and unveil the world of colors, nuances, patterns, and possibilities; I want to make them love it as I do! The way it is formed and the way it is quarried, the way it is produced and transformed again to become the protagonist of our living spaces is so interesting and unique. Walking in the quarries makes me feel powerful. Stone gets in your blood, and this happened to me.

You are an architect by trade, why did you transition to stone sales?

The change in my career path happened gradually; from being an Architect focused on the way natural building materials can be used and integrated in design to becoming the Purchasing Manager for a historical stone company in Palermo. My love for the material grew along with the certainty that working with people and influencing their way of seeing their design choices was really intriguing to me. Traveling to the quarries, looking at blocks and visiting the production plants was inspirational. Back then my clients were wholesalers and distributors like us; today they are Architects, Designers, Landscape Architects. We speak the same language with an accent on stone!

What differentiates ABC from other stone distributors?

ABC is always looking beyond the limit to be a step ahead. We care. We are a team that has grown together and we count many true stone lovers among our staff. We have been in NY for three decades, which is meaningful.

If you were a stone, what would you be and why?

The best selection of Calacatta Turquoise! The gentle but powerful movement of its veins makes it the protagonist of any space.

How long have you been with ABC Stone?

I’ve been with ABC for eight years.

Where are you from?

Born on the West Coast and raised in the East, though I consider myself of the Earth and sea… nothing settles me more than nature. Its power provides a stark reminder of just how small the majority of things we concern ourselves with are.

How would you describe your style of working?

Passionate and people-driven. I’d rather talk than email. I’d rather collaborate and ideate than put on headphones and grind it out solo. I need to feel the vibe and collect energy from those around me. I often walk while on conference calls. Movement in my body begets movement in my brain.

What differentiates ABC from other stone distributors?

We have a team of design consultants who have years of experience in all areas of the design and stone business from sourcing to fabrication to architecture. We are really proud of the talent, passion, and diversity that our team brings to the table.

If you were a stone, what would you be and why?

I’d be Opera D’Arte. It’s striking and bold and definitely a rare find. It’s not for everybody but those who like and feel drawn to it absolutely love it!

How long have you been in the business and with ABC?

Over 20 years

Where you are from and when did you come to the US?

I am originally from Poland and arrived in NY in 1991.

What do you love about your job and stone in general?

Collaboration is what I love the most; whether it’s with quarries & suppliers, colleagues, or clients, the end result is seeing beautiful material in incredible projects. The diversity of the materials we procure and the challenges of the various scopes of work we are engaged in really makes every day an adventure.

Why do you think that it is necessary to travel when you procure stone rather than buying from photographs?

Often we reject material based on the photos provided by the quarry. Unfortunately, while the advancements in technology allow us to share images of material instantly, most of the time, the actual color, depth, and ultimately beauty is lost in the one-dimensional photos. Further, photographs may not always showcase issues that particular materials carry. It is essential to see, feel, and understand the stone we bring to our clients.

Why do you think ABC has the finest stone in the industry?

Our core strength is the ability to source incredible selections of natural stone. That ability comes from the relationships we’ve built through years of hard work with quarries and suppliers. Leading interior designers and architects constantly challenge our team to find the most unique materials, and we rise to the occasion. The result is an unmatched collection.

If you were a stone, what would you be and why?

Bianco Lasa – it is quiet and calming but very versatile and resilient.
