The “Eliza Jane” is a boutique hotel near the French Quarter in New Orleans, designed by our friends at Stonehill Taylor. It was created from seven warehouses, many centuries old, combined and renovated. The result is a variety of spaces housing 196 guest rooms with 50 suites, as well as a fitness center, garden courtyard, lounge, and restaurant. The Eliza Jane was developed as part of The Unbound Collection of boutique hotels by Hyatt, named for Eliza Jane Nicholson, first woman publisher of a major metropolitan newspaper in the United States, The Daily Picayune, who was conveniently one of the warehouse occupants. For this reason the firm’s design was influenced by the history of the Picayune, as well as other former occupants of the warehouses used in the design: incl Gulf Baking Soda and the Peychaud Bitters Factory.
